On our visit to Galicia in May the percebes were simply an appetiser to the main course, the speciality of the\u00a0house, &#8216;Arroz Caldoso de Marisco&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>A Cofrad\u00eda means &#8216;the brotherhood&#8217; and relates to the fishermen who set sail into the unpredictable seas of the Costa da Morte (Death Coast) to bring home the finest seafood available in Spain, and probably in Europe!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1050\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/aconfradia.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1050\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1050\" title=\"aconfradia\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/aconfradia-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/aconfradia-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/aconfradia.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1050\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Never judge a book by its cover<\/p><\/div>\n<p>From the outside\u00a0the restaurant looked clean, if a little unappealing. Inside the downstairs bar area is predominantly hewn from big chunks of wood with an &#8216;L&#8217; shaped bar and walls covered\u00a0with posters advertising the annual &#8216;Percebes Festival&#8217;. After a thirst quenching beer we enquired about eating and were ushered to the upstairs restaurant where it appeared we were unfashionably early at 13:45. The place was deserted, but we needn&#8217;t have worried.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant was like a different world. Airy, bright and with pristine white over blue\u00a0tablecloths and shining silver cutlery. We took our seats by the open window with a view of the narrow rocky harbour.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1053\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/aconfradiainside.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1053\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1053\" title=\"aconfradiainside\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/aconfradiainside-300x243.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"243\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/aconfradiainside-300x243.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/aconfradiainside.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1053\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The delightful restaurant<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We&#8217;d already been let into a little secret by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.granerodelburro.com\/\">Stephen and Kay<\/a>. They had told us the previous evening that we must try the &#8216;Arroz Caldoso de Marisco&#8217;, a dish cooked for two people, and essentially a cross between a seafood risotto and a seafood soup with rice in it. A massive steaming iron cauldron of rice, prawns, clams, and what must have been a whole lobster,\u00a0cut into chunks and cooked in the most fantastically rich\u00a0stock.\u00a0Big chunks of white bread, and a bottle of Albari\u00f1o to wash it all down, and we&#8217;d had one of the finest meals in Galicia, probably one of the\u00a0most enjoyable\u00a0meals ever.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As we sat back to admire the empty pot and stack of lobster shells we took a moment to look around the now full to bursting restaurant. And guess what?
