We explained to Inma that we&#8217;d really like\u00a0answers to a few questions;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What land we were actually buying (the agent seemed pretty vague as to what was in the sale)\u00a0?<\/li>\n<li>What was the condition of the property (beyond what we could physically see)?<\/li>\n<li>What services the land already had supplied (utilities)?<\/li>\n<li>Whether there were any local plans for developments in the area?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Inma humoured us and found us a local surveyor in Ribadeo who was contracted and sent to the house armed with <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theodolite\">theodolite<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/loyalkng.com\/2010\/01\/01\/incredible-tape-measure-tricks-invloves-shooting-it-at-objectsopening-doors\/\">tape measure<\/a>. Within a couple of days his report, for want of a better description,\u00a0arrived with three pages of text (in Spanish), lots of photographs of the house in the sunshine (which was nice because we&#8217;d only really seen it in the rain), and a nice plan (see below) showing the extent of the land that\u00a0comprised the titles on the market.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/siteplan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-231\" title=\"siteplan\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/siteplan-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/siteplan-300x193.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/siteplan.jpg 823w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Amanda dedicated her time to the text, while I looked at the pretty pictures and the plan. I knew that there was something &#8216;interesting&#8217; on the way when after thirty minutes of consulting the online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spanishdict.com\/\">Spanish dictionary <\/a>\u00a0her preamble consisted of <em>&#8216;Right then&#8230;&#8217;<\/em>. For this is one of Amandas\u00a0&#8216;I&#8217;m being serious&#8217;\u00a0phrases.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, and without too much embellishment, she told me that\u00a0the surveyors report said that the house needs a new roof, new internal floors, new doors and windows, sanitation, water, electricity, the\u00a0ruined houses are overgrown,\u00a0but on the whole it was fairly\u00a0sound.<\/p>\n<p>There were &#8216;no flies on this surveyor&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>I consoled\u00a0myself with the fact that my 550\u20ac had bought us some\u00a0sunny house photographs and site plan.
