As the wind whips\u00a0inland off the Atlantic the first thing that it often encounters is the wind farms which the autonomous state of Galicia has cunningly located, thanks to many EC grants,\u00a0to catch it.<\/p>\n<p>Wind energy is the third largest power generation techique in Spain with nuclear producing 50% more than wind and thermal gas responsible for twice the wind energy production.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_270\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wind1.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-270\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-270\" title=\"Wind1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wind1-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wind1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.visitgalicia.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/Wind1.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-270\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Costa del Morte Wind Farm<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Wind turbines do solicit severe reactions from people, oriented towards one end of the spectrum or the other. Wind farms are either loved or <a href=\"http:\/\/colindavies.blogspot.com\/2008\/06\/depressing-statistics-on-spains-economy.html\">hated<\/a>. I can understand the rationale behind the dichotomously opposed views.<\/p>\n<p>Against;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They spoil the natural landscape.<\/li>\n<li>They can be seen from miles around.<\/li>\n<li>They can be noisy.<\/li>\n<li>They wreak havoc with migrating birds.<\/li>\n<li>They are unreliable, inefficient and unpredicatble, requiring a back-up source of energy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In favour;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They are aesthetically pleasing and elegant to look at.<\/li>\n<li>They help the environment and safeguard all our futures.<\/li>\n<li>Wind turbines green and harvest an abundant and renewable source of energy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Personally I quite like them. There are three stood on the hills to the west of our house, a couple of kilometers away, and I expect to see more each time we visit.
